Our pharmacy was founded in the early 1920's by local entrepreneur Archie Kerr. He later sold the pharmacy to James Balkwill, hence the name Balkwill Pharmacy.
"Balkwill's" as it has been coined by locals, has stood the test of time and was later sold to James's son, Jim Balkwill. Jim then operated the pharmacy with his wife Grace, who was also a registered pharmacist. Upon their retirement, the business was sold to long time employee, and local pharmacist, Isabel Whyte in 1999.
Isabel continued to own and operate the pharmacy until February of 2018 when the business was sold to brothers and business partners Brandon and Shane Wagstaff. Isabel has continued to remain an integral part of the team since the purchase and has an excellent working relationship with all of our patients and customers.
Brandon Wagstaff has worked at the pharmacy since he began his professional program in 2014. He graduated from the University of Alberta's Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy program in 2018 and has taken an active role in the day to day operations of the pharmacy since the purchase. Brandon's skill set has been coupled with Shane's business background as a CPA and CFP, helping run the pharmacy behind the scenes. This has allowed Brandon to focus the majority of his time on direct patient care and pharmaceutical services.
Both of the Wagstaff brother's look forward to serving the community of Trochu and the surrounding area for years to come!
